Book Review: A Close, and Sometimes Difficult Look at Familial Relationships

This is my second Jay Quinn novel, I previously read "Back Where He Started" and thoroughly enjoyed it. This more recent piece was a most enjoyable read as well. JQ gives us an intimate look into a family and their very personal relationships. The matriarch of the family, Annike, is suffering from dementia and she is on a steady decline. The story evolves around everyone coming together at the home of Annike and her Husband, Frank, for a long overdue weekend visit. Their son Karl arrives on his own and is later joined by his wife and daughter. Karl's brother Sven, who is gay, also joins the group and is later joined by his longterm life partner, Rob. Frank, doesn't approve of the life Sven is leading and we find some very tense scenes in the book where he just out and out is offensive to Sven. Eventhough he doesn't like the life his son is leading he certainly has no problem taking the support Sven provides he and his wife as her health declines. Anyway, to make a long story short our author is a terrific writer and thus far I have enjoyed everything I have read by him. I think there must be a sequel in the works as one important sub-plot was left unresolved and I really want to know where that goes, hence four stars. Enjoy! Highly recommended.
