Book Review: A decent collection of Tynan's Popular Musical Literature
Summary: 3 Stars
This collection presents 14 songs that are among he most popular performed by this outstanding tenor. The collection contains, in my opinion, two drawbacks:
1. As a tenor, Tynan sings these songs in a rather high key. For those whose voices are lower pitched, the keys are too high to perform in without considerable discomfort.
2. The piano accompaniments are generally devoid of containing the basic melodic line. This presents two problems. An inexperienced singer could have trouble maintaining the correct pitch as it is unsupported directly in the accompaniment. The other issue is that these would not work as a piano solo unless the pianist was skilled enough to incorporate the vocal line with the accompaniment.There are a few numbers were the vocal line is more generously included in the accompaniment.
The accompaniments are not easy but a moderately advanced pianist could handle them.
The price is reasonable and the collection could be a welcomed addition to the library of Ronan Tynan fans.
