Book Review: A Fresh and Creative Addition to Literature
Summary: 4 Stars
This collection of stories is interesting to say the least. They are a far cry from the stories that have been jammed down our throats since we were six years. The originality, wackiness, and creativity that fill this collection are worth taking a good look at. Whether you a reading a freakish story concerning male sex organs, or Fracalossy's collection of super short stories, you can't help but allow your mind to access its freakiest and darkest inner workings. The portrayals in these stories are odd in the sense that they haven't really been discovered yet. One would think that if the creation of the cult movie were successful, the same would be for books. Unfortunately this hasn't proved true yet, but I see this as its initiation. Like Kerouac, who introduced and founded the beat movement, these writers, in their good work, have served as the beginning to something that has infinite potential. Just like Tim Burton's movies go great lengths to perpetuate his style; these ten authors do the same with their stories.
This intensely different genre of writing is not for the conservative reader. This outlandish style allows for a form of expression that hasn't been seen in literature for quite some time, and reading it is a somewhat liberating experience. I would recommend this collection to my friends with a sort of disclaimer. I would tell them to forget all literature they had previously read and to read this through with as open a mind as humanly possible. There's no telling where Nin and Nan will make your mind wander!
