Pinker has written a very powerful book with a very wide reach, covering the science behind our behaviour, beliefs and emotions. He takes on the big issues and big thinkers that dominate human discourse, and helps the reader make sense of the competing theories, their place in the history of thought and their continuing appeal, and argues with great force and clarity for an inborn human nature that has evolved in the same way as our other characteristics. Pinker is both erudite and entertaining, and his book goes a long way to answering some of the eternal questions that all thinking people ponder at some time or another.
