This book is not the easiest of reads - yet the attention it demands is, I feel, rewarding. It's style is a series of lectures, or conversations, given by the Master Mirdad to a group of monks who occupy the monastery known as the 'Ark'. However, after turning more pages, Mirdad - and his rather archaic style - brings you in and you become absorbed into the words. Sometimes written almost like riddles, there is a wealth of insightful knowledge within these talks.Don't compare this with 'The Prophet' as the blurb tries to suggest. This work stands on its own with its very distinctive style - regard it as listening to the words of a Teacher on the Path, yet expect to need time for a slow read. I gave it 4 stars since it is not accessible for all tastes. Yet, as part of the library for the inclined 'seeker', a perhaps necesary addition.
