Book Review: Bookseller of Kabul and dilemmas!

The Bookseller from Kabul is without a doubt an amazing book. ?sne Seierstad manages to involve us in all the intricate details of the main characters family life. She has managed to expose issues which otherwise would have been left unprinted in other books. But unfortunately this exposure has put the bookseller and his familys' life at risk. The Norwegian media has had heavey discussions about ?snes abusing her position. She has been accused of exposing the family too much so as to make her "millions". The character in the book has also reacted to the fact that the book is printed in several different languages and now even in pashtho (Afghani) which will put him and his family in more danger. The question is whether ?snes has acted unethically and it seems that after pressure from the Norwegian media has now accepted to change parts of her book just for the sake of the bookseller.
Despite the book being a fantastic read the ethical issues out weigh the content. The book should never have been printed without the booksellers approval and he should at least have been given a precentage of the profits - an issue which was never discussed. Here again we have proof of how a western journalist/writer exploits their sources and without understanding the cultural codes and the consequences a published book might have on the safety of their actors!
