Book Review: Another Good Charlie Hood Novel

Charlie Hood, the engaging ATF agent whose roots are from the non-glitzy portion of SoCal (Bakersfield & the Inland Empire), pursues a fellow agent & friend who has apparently gone rogue while working undercover. As with his other three Charlie Hood novels, Parker borrows a bit from the supernatural (or at least very mysterious) in explaining some of the events that transpire, using a slightly greater dose than in the prior novels. Personally, I find this reinforces the apocalyptic feel that is inherent to the gun and drug running Cal/Mex world that is the backdrop for the Hood books. The pacing of the book told from multiple viewpoints (Hood, rogue agent, rogue agent's wife, etc.) is good as the story unfolds. There is some benefit to having read previous Hood novels (particularly Iron River) as a number of characters reappear, but this book can also stand on its own. Another good read from Mr. Parker!
