Book Reviews of The Bottom Billion: Why the Poorest Countries are Failing and What Can Be Done About It

Book Review: A Clear Discussion of the World's Poorest
Summary: 4 Stars

I really believe Professor Collier has a background understanding of the African problems but he discounts the fact most of these colonies were a patchwork of colonial fantasy. Many of the bootom billion are still tethered to their cultural past and fight for such identity especially when a section is privileged with a nautral resource within a country. The traps that makes development stumble are discussed by him show his depth of knowledge of the fundamental crisis.

The African century has not arrived but Collier acceptance of unfair subsidies to the developed countries farmers is well pointed out. His analysis on aid and other palliatives will work if only it meets the whole missing factor in the bottom billion - the poor leadership.
