Book Reviews of The Breastfeeding Book: Everything You Need to Know About Nursing Your Child from Birth Through WeaningBook Review: The place I always turned to for advice Summary: 5 StarsThis book is great. Answers a lot of breastfeeding questions. I referred to is often with both of my children born 5 years apart. Im still feeding my 6 month old now and pretty much have things going well - but Im sure I'll be reading the book again when we go through weening. Breastfeeding is really hard work but also very rewarding and worth the effort & time it takes to Master. This book aids the reading in discovering their own breastfeeding skills and ability. I recently purchased another copy of the book for a friend who just had her first baby. Hopeing it helps her like it did me.
Book Review: Very helpful! Summary: 5 StarsAs a woman who breastfed eight children (including her adopted child!) Martha Sears is exactly the sort of person you want writing books about breastfeeding. Her tone is loving and gentle while still offering a wealth of information and troubleshooting tips. Like most women I know, I found breastfeeding to be much more complicated and difficult at first than I'd anticipated. The first couple weeks were rough for me and I give much credit to this book (as well as my lactation consultant) for getting me through.
Book Review: Excellent Resource for Any New Mom!!! Summary: 5 StarsI used this book as a reference when nursing my own children, now give the book as a gift to my friends and relatives who are expecting a baby.
Dr. Sears and his wife, martha Sears, are a knowledgeable and comforting resource. I was lucky to have received this book & my kids were lucky too!
Book Review: Hurt More Than It Helped Summary: 1 StarsI was given this book as a gift and was eager to exclusively breastfeed my baby. The first few days after we got home from the hospital, however, things were not working right. I fed and fed him, yet he never seemed satisfied. I scoured The Breastfeeding Book for information about low production levels, and basically all it said was that it is rare and not to worry about it--just breastfeed frequestly and your supply will increase. I did just that, yet my supply never increased. My baby was so hungry and I was frantic and felt completely inadequate! This book basically implied that giving your baby any formula is just short of child abuse and breastfeeding is the only option, no matter what. Thank goodness a lactation consultant finally worked with us, determined that, in fact, my supply was too low for my baby, and recommended I supplement with formula. My baby was so happy after that, my supply actually increased after I started supplementing, and we are still doing a combination 4 months later. There is no way we would have stuck with it this long if I had followed the advice of this book and just breastfed. I give this book one star because, although there is some useful information, it makes moms feel like failures if they can't or don't want to breastfeed for a year or more. Being a mom is so much more than how you feed your baby!
Book Review: Good resource Summary: 4 StarsI am currently breastfeeding my 9 month old daughter. I found this book to be very helpful and a great resource. I felt like I had a support system whenever ran into any bumps along the way. By the way, I think they had great advice about pumping, storage and going back to work guilt free.
