Book Reviews of The Breastfeeding Book: Everything You Need to Know About Nursing Your Child from Birth Through Weaning

Book Review: Great Handbook
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a very good breastfeeding manual with illustrations and stories from parents to help anyone who is breastfeeding or considering it. Sections include:
Why breast is best, how to breastfeed, healthy breastfeeding (nutrition, medications, problems), breastfeeding in today's world (products, breastfeeding while working, nighttime feeding, father's role) and special situations (breastfeeding when baby or mother has special needs, funny and not so funny things that happen during breastfeeding, toddler nursing and weaning.)

This book was very helpful and is one I would like to own so I can refer to it again after my next child. There were a few instances where I thought they were to being to harsh on those who chose to bottlefeed though and that's why it doesn't have 5 stars.

Book Review: Awesome must have book for any new or expectant mom
Summary: 5 Stars

Dr. and Martha Sears do an amazing job of conveying important breastfeeding information, sharing life experiences, and motivating mothers to consider breastfeeding. Even if you're just thinking about nursing, this book is a great read. Martha Sears nursed all 8 (yes, 8) of her children and shares valuable insight all through his awesome book. From preparing to breastfeed, the first few days, through extended nursing, it's all covered in this wonderful resource. This would make a great gift for a baby shower or newly pregnant mom. Their parenting philosophy advocated mothering from the breast and getting the breastfeeding relationship off to a good start.

Book Review: Loved it
Summary: 5 Stars

I used this book constantly for the 1st 3weeks of breastfeeding. It was so helpful I can't imagine what I would have done without it. My baby had trouble latching on in the beginning, so I had to pump my milk, and the section on pumping was extremely helpful too. Once we got her breastfeeding again I used all the tips the book offered and we are now off to a great start.

Book Review: Whether new or not, all mothers should have this book!
Summary: 5 Stars

Oh my goodness, Martha Sears is absolutely incredible. Her knowledge and expertise shines as she gives us mamas the most valuable information we will ever need, How to feed our babies. If you plan to nurse, this book tells you all you'll need to know, period. If you plan to nurse through bottlefeeding, this book tells you all you need to know, period. So...either way, a mother must read this book. I especially love the several different nursing positions, but I think my favorite is the invaluable information about pumping and storing breastmilk. She really does give you the low down AND she gives allowance to mothers to do what is best for her and her baby, including natural-baby/toddler initiated weaning. Thanks Martha!

Book Review: Read before you give birth!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this book and then failed to fully read it due to reading another book on breastfeeding...Kathleen Huggin's book, "The Nursing Mother's Companion". The hospital had recommended the later one so strongly that I only skimmed parts of Sear's book. Since my child is almost 11 months old I picked this book up again for info on weaning.

I especially wish that I had read chapter 9 on Nighttime Breastfeeding before I even went to the hospital. I would have gotten so much more sleep from the first night on! This chapter in my opinion is worth the price of the whole book.

I have since read the entire book and although I am not 100% practicing attachment parenting...my baby has mainly slept in a cradle swing and then the crib...this book is a great one to have in addition to Huggin's book. I do not regret my purchase!
