Book Reviews of The Breastfeeding Book: Everything You Need to Know About Nursing Your Child from Birth Through WeaningBook Review: Great reference book Summary: 5 Stars
Everytime I had a question about breastfeeding, I could find an answer in this book. It gave me confidence when I was felt like I was doing it all wrong. It's a little repetitive at times, but that just reminds me of something I may have forgotten.
Book Review: Horrible book Summary: 1 Stars
I hated this book. I didn't even read the whole thing because it was boring and I did not like the Sears views on mothers who give their babies formula. I read The Everything Breastfeeding Book and I loved it. I was never bored. My baby was in the NICU and her first night she was given bottles. The second day she was given my pumped milk in bottles and formula because my milk was not all the way in yet. My baby would not latch on when we got home so my mom bought me the Medela nipple shields to use and that is how I breast feed my baby. The Sears would call me a horrible mother because I "didn't try hard enough" but I really did all I could it just didn't work so I made it work with soem help from a nipple shield.
Book Review: Hurt More Than It Helped Summary: 1 Stars
I was given this book as a gift and was eager to exclusively breastfeed my baby. The first few days after we got home from the hospital, however, things were not working right. I fed and fed him, yet he never seemed satisfied. I scoured The Breastfeeding Book for information about low production levels, and basically all it said was that it is rare and not to worry about it--just breastfeed frequestly and your supply will increase. I did just that, yet my supply never increased. My baby was so hungry and I was frantic and felt completely inadequate! This book basically implied that giving your baby any formula is just short of child abuse and breastfeeding is the only option, no matter what. Thank goodness a lactation consultant finally worked with us, determined that, in fact, my supply was too low for my baby, and recommended I supplement with formula. My baby was so happy after that, my supply actually increased after I started supplementing, and we are still doing a combination 4 months later. There is no way we would have stuck with it this long if I had followed the advice of this book and just breastfed. I give this book one star because, although there is some useful information, it makes moms feel like failures if they can't or don't want to breastfeed for a year or more. Being a mom is so much more than how you feed your baby!
Book Review: I love this book Summary: 5 Stars
This is a fabulous book! It is true to the title, is does have EVERYTHING you need to know. I read the entire book first, then I would use it for reference, while breastfeeding. I passed it down to a friend, who also loves it!
Book Review: I made it thanks to this book! Summary: 5 Stars
Breastfeeding was very very challenging for me and this book gave me all the information I needed to thrive, now my baby is 2 months old and I can say I am enjoying nursing, what I doubted the first 5 weeks. I highly recommend this to everyone, but try to read it before you have your baby so you get all the valuable information in advance.
