Book Reviews of The Bro CodeBook Review: A good joke gift Summary: 3 Stars
The Bro code is a great joke gift, its not overly funny though. It's worth a chuckle for a few minutes but gets old very fast
Still a good joke gift though :)
Funny but not too funny, Barney Stinson's lines are better delivered in short bursts.
Book Review: A must have for any "bro" Summary: 5 Stars
My buddy at work and I love the show. And this book is perfect. Keep it buy your desk so that you can reference it whenever needed. I only wish I also got the audiobook version so I could hear NPH read it!!
Book Review: AWESOME! Summary: 4 Stars
Got it in great shape, Its an awesome book. I finished it in 2 hours, didn't take my eyes of it for one second! I fully recommend it for both girls and boys!
Book Review: All bro's should own this book. Summary: 5 Stars
It's funny and amusing. If you watch HIMYM, however, Barney contradicts alot of his codes, and that gets me mad !!
Book Review: Am I the only one who thought this was atrocious? Summary: 1 Stars
I may not be a "bro", but I can say that books like this, with their promotion of irresponsible sex, insulting stereotypes, and immature behavior are not really all that funny.
The book was a dead on satire of (sub)-Generation X male behavior, but is more than a laugh brigade because it also ENCOURAGES the kind of behavior it spoofs. Instead of simply being a satire, it crosses the line by endorsing immaturity.
Although some would say it is only comedy, it is also true that art and comedy influence and reflect what society thinks.
According to this book, it is okay to:
*Evaluate a woman's attractiveness based on race ("Half Asian chicks= Multi-ethnic, multi-YES-nic! [points up!]; Lebanese?= Leba-PLEASE! [points down]")
*Pan down to the lowest IQs in the country by using stupid phrases and slogans (see above).
*Assume that all men use urinals or change in front of each other in locker rooms, and any man who doesn't feel comfortable with that is a geek.
*Assume that there is something wrong with BEING a geek.
*Assume that every man that age has had sex, lots of it, and in distasteful manners.
This book is written for 30-something-year-olds, some of whom are old enough to be elected President! Of those who don't become that influential, the rest learn to view women, gays, and other 'undesirable' people/lifestyles with contempt.
IN SUMMARY:
While this book was a brilliant commentary on modern male behavior, it gets only one star because it endorses rather than laughs about the behavior. Recommended only for use as a social study.
