Book Review: "The Choice" is a great choice.....
Summary: 5 Stars

I am an avid Nicholas Sparks fan, but have not enjoyed his latest books as much as I did "The Choice". This book is very reminicent of "The Notebook" and its sequel "The Wedding". I love the timeline of this book, the flashbacks in time, as well as the character development....it is Nicholas Sparks at his best. I was a tad bit disappointed with the end...it ended too quickly....not enough details to satisfy me. Its theme about "choices" and the choices we make out of love was very timely, given the moral condition in our world. Nicholas Sparks always comes through with the correct "choice"!

Always fun picking up a Sparks book - great to read on an airplane - would recommend this one for a lazy afternoon in front of the fireplace with a glass of wine.

Book Review: 3.5/5: Definitely Doesn't Have The Emotional Pull Other Novels Have
Summary: 3 Stars

Nicholas Sparks has written several love stories in the past. He is known at times to pull on the reader's heart strings and dazzle us with his amazing characters. The Choice is not a bad book at all, but it doesn't really feel like Nicholas Sparks at times. Even more so, Sparks is known for presenting us with memorable heartfelt stories that linger on long after the last page has been flipped. You don't really get that here.

Travis Parker is living the ideal life. He lives in a great neighborhood, has great friends and a caring sister, and has a good job. There's only one thing he's missing: A complete love life. After a get together with his friends he's approached by Gabby, his next door neighbor who wrongfully accuses him of something he plays no part in. After this mistake, the two decide to start over as friends. They quickly become close friends and despite that Gabby has a boyfriend, they want to become something more. After ending her relationship with her boyfriend, Gabby and Travis spend a lot of time madly in love with one another. But unforeseen circumstances force Travis to make a decision unlike any other he's ever had to make before.

The novel begins on a fairly good note. Watching the friendship between Travis and Gabby grow gradually is interesting. And as they learn about each other, we learn about them. To the point where you really like Travis and Gabby. Much like many Sparks novels, he has a real knack for getting you to like his characters. Their personalities are distinct and they grow throughout the novel in ways you can't imagine.

Once we get to the halfway mark, the book begins to dwindle down. While the characters are still fun to deal with, we are then faced with Travis's decision and how he came to be put in such a hard position. While Travis's struggle is emotional its hard to say readers will come to feel sorry for him. It isn't that the reader doesn't care, it's because the language that Sparks uses at this point becomes all around cheesy. Its not so unusual to see Sparks talk about love and even make his characters discuss it, but here it becomes almost too much to bear at times. Gabby and Travis are in love. We understand that. Sparks seems content on hammering this into the readers head, though. In the second half of the book he reminds us quite often by having Travis and other characters blatantly state it, or Travis's thought seemed to be focused on nothing but his love for Gabby. After a while this became very redundant.

The book also doesn't reach that emotional high that many of his previous novels do. It's a good book, but can't seem to stand up against Sparks previous efforts. The Choice isn't a rewarding read, but it is a satisfactory one.

Book Review: A Beautiful Love Story
Summary: 5 Stars

As you can see by the many 5 star reviews...this is a great book! It is such a sweet love story. I listened to the audio version on my way to/from work and the reader really did a great job. I laughed a lot and sometimes cried so hard I had to pull over because my heart ached for Travis and Gabby. I am not a crier but this novel really touched me. Bottom line--- read it, you won't regret it.

Book Review: A Classic Love Story
Summary: 4 Stars

The Choice was what I've come to expect from Nicholas Sparks. Fans of The Notebook will not be disappointed. The Choice is about a love story in idyllic North Carolina and a tragedy that forces one of the partners to make a difficult decision.

The ending was not expected, but I was satisfied with it. It was an easy read and a classic love story.
