Book Reviews of The Chronicles of Narnia Box Set (adult)Book Review: Great series, but the ending didn't work Summary: 3 StarsI know that people are wondering how I could give only three stars (actually it would be closer to 3.5 if I were allowed), and if I were reviewing the separate books, five of the books would receive 5 stars each. It's the remaining two books that bring my rating down.Let me point out that to anyone who hasn't read the series before, I suggest reading them in the following order: 2-3-4-5-6-1-7. I had not read the books before, and after reading some of the reviews here at Amazon, I debated long and hard if I should begin with #1 (The Magician's Nephew), or #2 (The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe). I opted for #1, but I realized how much more I would have enjoyed the rest had I started with #2 instead. I loved #2 through #6. Each was a complete and separate story, building tension, and concluding satisfactorily. The tension was not as great as it could have been, but after all, he did write these stories for children. I loved the characters, both the humans an! ! d others. I loved the landscapes and visual scenery. My problems with the series were with books #1 and #7. The Magician's Nephew seems to have been written specifically as a precursor to explain #7, and The Last Battle was too religious for my own personal taste. I know that Mr. Lewis was a deeply religious man, and in fact, those readers who wish to introduce their children to Christianity may want to consider the series as a topic of discussion (especially #1 and #7). However, this detracted from the pleasure I got from the rest of the series, and that is why I can only recommend five of the seven books.
Book Review: Magical. Summary: 5 StarsI read The Chronicles of Narnia when I was younger, but now that I'm older I appreciate the books even more. They are timeless classics. I am continually inspired by C.S. Lewis' tales.
Book Review: Timeless, Classic, and most of all, Enjoyable! Summary: 5 StarsI first was introduced to the Chronicles of Narnia by my aunt, when she reliquished her old collection upon me at the age of eleven. Six years later, I can still recount the wonder and amazement of reading The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe for the very first time. I was completely taken aback at the mystical and enchanted world of Narnia, and how Lewis' lyrical storytelling held you in for the duration of each book. I read the entire series (in their original, and in my opinion, rightful, order) each summer, just as I did when they first came into my possession. I hope to pass these books down to my children and grandchildren for generations. They speak worlds to people of life, love and spirituality. They cut through religious red-tape, and tell of the world as it is. I love them for their expanded, enlightened views and their enchanting stories.
Book Review: Simply fantastic! Summary: 5 StarsI stumbled across this book when I was 10.After reading it for a while,I just couldn't put the book down.Never have I read any other fantasy stories as good as this.
Book Review: Wonderful! Summary: 5 StarsA captivating story of fantasy and wonder. C.S. shows people how to use thier imagination.
