I am commenting on this book from the standpoint of listening to it on CD. This is a great introduction to the Civil War itself and the politics surrounding it. The entire thing is a 3 hour listen in which the voices are switched between the two Burns' brothers. Transition music is played when scenes are switching and the voices are excited about the presentation. There are portions of letters from soldiers who were in a battle describing the action. One gains insight into the struggles of Lincoln and much much more. I recommend this book.
