Book Reviews of The Clash

Book Review: The Best Clash book available
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a wonderful book, full of commentary by the Clash themselves about all aspects of their career 1976-1985. fantastic pictures, full set lists of all their tours, complete discography etc. If you are a fan of the band you cannot be without this. I go back to it again and again, particularly when listening to Clash albums. The definitive history of one of the greatest bands of all time.

Book Review: The Hot Pink Cover May Clash With Your Coffee Table
Summary: 5 Stars

/The Clash/ is a collective memoir by four men who changed the world with their music and influenced an entire generation to question authority. This book is a vast wealth of information that includes never-before-heard information directly from the band themselves. Each member tells the story of their childhood and upbringing before becoming The Clash. Their stories are all unique and different from each other. Having already known what The Clash became, reading their stories from the very beginning shed light on why exactly this quartet were so passionate about revolution.

After each member has had their chance to tell their past, the book is sectioned chronologically by year. All four members recollect, what seems like all events, important and trivial, that took place during the 1970's and 80's. These tales are all accompanied by hundreds of images that pleasantly distract from the interviews.

/The Clash/ memoir stands out from other books with its hot-pink cover and enormous pictures, which makes it a great coffee table book. I recommend this book to Clash fans or people who are interested in the story behind the music.

Book Review: The ONLY Clash Book You Will Ever Need....
Summary: 5 Stars

This is without a doubt the only book any Clash fan will ever need. Growing up and being greatly influenced by music in the late 70s and early 80s I have read a lot of books and seen a lot of photos from that time, but this book tops the list about the Clash. It is very easy to read, it flows well and has lots of new photographs and information about the important people, places and happenings of the time.
The main thrust of the book is obviously the Clash, but it does (and has to really considering how they were all intertwined)mention the Pistols, The Slits, Sham 69, Blondie etc, but never to a point where it all just becomes 'filler' and a rehash of the other 1000's of 'Punk' books out there. All the groups and people mentioned here are strictly on the periphery and rightly so as this is a book about the Clash by the Clash. The interviews in it are well written and in chronological order, with it being clear the proof reader has done their job well - all the relevant facts match up throughout the book.
The Clash were without a doubt one of THE influential groups of the last century though having said that they come across as pretty humble and a bit bemused by the whole fame thing! Each one of the group brought a different quality to the table however it is clear they all needed each other - Joe bought the anger, politics and unrest of the time, Mick the musical knowledge and technical know how and Paul bringing the good looks, attitude and style.
The only negative comment is that there isn't much input about (or from) their manager Bernie Rhodes who was instrumental in the Clash's rise to fame. Clearly cut from the same cloth as Mr. McLaren I feel that a bit more about his influence on the group would have added to the book even if it may have been negative as far as Joe, Mick and Paul were concerned. All in all an excellent read and well worth the space on any music aficionados shelf.

as a 15 year old reading is not really that great but this book i would lose hours reading it i've read it several times and it never gets boring the book has Joe,Mick,Paul, and Topper little summaries of there lives in the beginning that range from a few pages they show great pictures of the band in action and if your a clash fan definitely pick this book up you won't regret it

For any fan of The Clash this is a must. When it shows up it is very impressive. They left no stone unturned and has plenty from Joe Strummer even though he is no longer with us. You will be reading this book over and over.
