Book Review: I Couldn't Put It Down
Summary: 5 Stars

The most compelling read yet from Sister Souljah.

This striking story is told through the eyes of gutsy daddy's girl Winter Santiaga, the eldest daughter of Brooklyn's kingpin drug lord, who learns very quickly the harsh realities of life and is quickly spiralled into a world she doesn't fully understand. On the night of her 16th birthday her world is turned upside down when father, Ricky is arrested for drug related charges and her mother gets caught up in the shady underworld Ricky has tried for so long to protect them from. Winter, shocked, does what she knows best; takes control by playing mother to her three younger sisters unaware that the child protection services are not far away. Using daddy's skills and his best worker Midnight, her mysterious long term crush, she buys some time but not enough as the social workers take her sisters away forcing Winter to run away and fend for herself on the gritty streets of New York. The ghetto that has always been kind to her when daddy was around now turns nasty and Winter quickly realises that trust is something that you don't give easily. This page-turner is both dark and witty showing the cruel reality of living in the ghetto. However this book does offer a positive element in the form of Sister Souljah who puts herself in the book showing the stubborn character of Winter that there is more to black people than drugs and violence. This unique book combines politics with the hardships of real life and has a shocking beginning and an even more shocking ending. This is definitely among one of my favourites.

Book Review: Finished it within a day
Summary: 5 Stars

I LOVED this book! So real, and so true, really opens the eyes to those who haven't seen or experienced the things that goes on in the ghettos. It was so good to read something that I had knowledge of, something that I saw as an everyday thing - rather than those unbelieveable fairytale like books that every one seems to read.

Book Review: the best book ever
Summary: 5 Stars

Book Review: WOW!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Dear Sister Souljah,
The nuances of Winter's down spiral and refusal to see truth before her eyes rang some deep bells within me. I kept yelling at the book, "WAKE UP!" But could not put it down till the bitter end. I blame you for my not sleeping last night as I could not stop reading. Well, done! The message in that book and the heart that wrote it must be great, brave and noble.
It is always good to remember who you have been so that you can treasure the present and reach into the future, thankyou.
