Book Reviews of The CollectorsBook Review: Disappointing Ending Summary: 4 Stars
I enjoyed THE COLLECTORS and didn't want it to end. But then, it didn't....really. Tsk tsk to Baldacci on the cliffhanger. That last line was a resounding thud. But, I'll buy the next book in the series and probably enjoy it just as much. The Camel Club characters' complementary talents are interesting, with a little bit of comic relief amid the rapacious killing. In addition to the disappointing ending, I found it pretty weak to have the conservator/bookstore guy sort of spill his guts for several pages, in such a nice, friendly way.
Book Review: Enjoyable...Not his best, but still worth your time. Summary: 3 Stars
I enjoyed, once again, reading about the Camel Club and the predicaments that they quite often find themselves. I thought that the book started slowly; however, it redeemed itself as the story shifted into high gear in the second half. Some of the details about the cons that were perpetrated against the unsuspecting victims were, I found to be very interesting. Overall, it is definitely worth your time. Enjoy!!
Book Review: Entertaining Summary: 3 Stars
Baldacci certainly knows how to write a highly entertaining story, but falls short on ending. After spending half the book on Conroy-Bagger story, I would have expected a better staging for next book. Nevertheless, its a good read. For Clancy fans out there, I would categorize this as a "light read".
Book Review: Entertaining, clever, and a bit ridiculous Summary: 4 Stars
The Collectors lives up to traditional Camel Club Baldacci fun. Credit Baldacci for two creative plots that eventually work their way together mid-book, each fully loaded with Baldacci-esque twists, action, and glimpse into the world of cons & spies. I found the link between the two plots to be a bit weak, but given the entertaining character interaction of the opposing key players, I'm fine overlooking the minor shortfall.
Readers should not expect a profound thought provoking story in The Collectors, but as with other Camel Club stories from Baldacci, a fun ride, entertaining lead characters, an okay supporting cast, and a string of borderline ridiculous scenarios & challenges facing this odd grouping of characters. Baldacci certainly pushed the "cheesy" level on multiple occasions, but one could argue that this served to keep the story light and fun... which it did.
4 stars for entertainment value and fun characters. You get exactly what you expect.
Book Review: Excellent Summary: 5 Stars
All his books are great. Interesting, fast reads, can't put them down. Great attention to detail. I bought all of these books seperately and each is better than the last.
