Book Reviews of The CollectorsBook Review: It's Just Okay Summary: 3 Stars
There are two different stories within which are tied together by a murdered librarian. Some characters in the book just sort of disappear into thin air as if the author forgot about them. Other characters are a bit over the top in one's ability to find them believable. The ending certainly leaves the reader hanging for a sequel which is sure to follow this sequel to The Camel Club. If you have it or borrow it, go ahead & read it. It's entertaining enough. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it
Book Review: My Dad loves David Baldacci! Summary: 5 Stars
I saw the David Baldacci books online and thought they were right up my dad's alley - he's a John Grisham/Tom Clancy kind of guy. Boy was I ever right. He thoroughly enjoyed this book and I got him another one to keep reading. Thank you David Baldacci for such a great series!
Book Review: My first one of his, but not my last Summary: 5 Stars
I work in a public library and I see Mr. Baldacci's books come and go on a regular basis. I decided to take the plunge and read The Collectors. I'm pretty happy with my choice.
I don't have a lot of patience for books that fail to draw me in right away. In this book, the author delivers - big time. There are two stories running side by side in this non-stop thriller. The story lines are believable, enticing and educational as well.
I will admit to a certain bias as I am a book lover and that is central to one of the story lines in the book. With that said, I've tried to not color my opinion too much in this regard.
If you have not had the chance to read any of Baldacci's stuff then you are missing out on some great writing.
Get this book. I believe you will not be disappointed
Book Review: Not Again? Summary: 2 Stars
Once upon a time David Baldacci spent the time to write a couple of pretty entertaing novels. His most recent work, however, has become progressively worse with "The Collectors" really starting to hit the bottom. On the positive side, the story is interesting and we have some good characters. The problem is the quality of the writing. I have to believe he doesn't believe in editors or if he does, he doesn't allow them to do their jobs. "The Collectors" reads much more like a weak first of second novel than it does a veteran author who has proven to have a talent to entertain. Disappointing.
Book Review: Only slightly better than the first book in the series Summary: 3 Stars
The first book in this series, "The Camel Club", was so poorly written and the plot so poorly developed that I almost believed it was a spy spoof. While "The Collectors" shows a bit of improvement in style, Baldacci still has a lot to learn about how to write a decent thriller. Right now he's almost as bad as John Grisham, except that Grisham's style and plots have actually declined over the last ten years.
Since "The Collectors" was a bit better than "The Camel Club" I'll hold off any further judgement until I read the next book in the series, but I don't think there'll be much of an improvement. This next book will obviously feature a battle between Oliver Stone, Annabelle Conroy, and Jerry Bagger - and Bagger makes your average movie Mafioso look like a genius.
