Book Reviews of The Complete Guide to Walt Disney World 2008 (Complete Guide to Walt Disney World)

Book Review: This is a complete guide
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been to Disney over 15 times and I enjoy getting the new yearly book before we go. This book was a first for me.. I always purchased a certain guide book every year but that book never changed its contents. This book is even more up-to-date than the competitors book... This is a must have for anyone visiting Walt Disney World this year!!! EVERY page is color and there are so many little hints they tell you about each ride.. Even how long typical waits can be for the ride lines... They even give you some history about the parks... Everyone needs this book.

Book Review: So much new material
Summary: 5 Stars

I almost did not purchase this book because I had the 2007 edition and figured it wouldn't be much different. Wrong! Almost every page has something new, and it is all right to the point. The attraction information includes, for example, new articles on the redone Haunted Mansion, the new High School Musical show, the new Spaceship Earth, the revised Kilimanjaro Safari ride, Epcot's Three Caballeros ride, the new Cinderella Castle show, the Festival of the Lion King show and next Pocahontas show (this is the only guide to take this show seriously, and it's my kid's favorite), Toy Story Mania (my soon to be personal fave, I'm sure) and every other new or revised thing Disney has thought up in the past year. There's a completely restaurant chapter that wasn't in the 2007 book, and then another new chapter about resorts with the most handy and helpful information on where to stay at Disney I have ever seen. Buy this book, buy last year's Unofficial for 33 cents (the new one is hardly different at all!) and you are set for a great vacation!

Book Review: Makes it easy to have fun
Summary: 5 Stars

If you REALLY want to know about Walt Disney World, this is the book for you. There is so much detail here that you won't find anywhere else... about the restaurants, the resorts, the attractions, the water parks, even on the "little" things to do such as miniature golf! Best of all, it is SO useful! Knowing which miniature golf course was best for our 5-year-old made all the difference one night during our recent visit, which was over Presidents Day weekend. We only had three days for this trip, but thanks to this book we had an absolute BLAST! Well worth the money.

Book Review: Love all the color pictures!
Summary: 5 Stars

I own 10+ WaltDisneyWorld travel books and this one has the best pictures by far. It is one of my favorites to read about the restaurants, attractions, etc. I am so happy I splurged and bought this.

Book Review: Super detailed restaurant reviews
Summary: 5 Stars

This book has such interesting and thorough information on all the Disney restaurants! I bought each of the three major guidebooks, and this one just blows the others away! Let me give you a specific example, by comparing the three main 2008 books. I'll use Tokyo Dining, where, thanks to this guide, my family and I had an especially good meal last week. The following quotes are the ENTIRE description of that restaurant from each book:

The Unofficial Guide 2008: "The pavilion's adjacent Tempura Kiku and Matsunoma Lounge will be replaced in August 2007 with a new dining spot emphasizing sushi."

Birnbaum's Official Guide 2008: "Tokyo Dining, which has replaced Tempura Kiku and Matsunoma Lounges, features sumptuous sushi and tempura temptations. Reservations are suggested."

The Complete Guide 2008: "A combination of good food, great atmosphere and absolutely mind-blowing service, this new Epcot treasure is exactly what a World Showcase restaurant is supposed to be -- a non-threatening way for you to fully experience the cuisine, and atmosphere, of a foreign culture. A mix of traditional Japanese entrees, the menu ($15-$28) includes a tender beef teriyaki and nice shrimp tempura. A separate sushi and sashimi menu ($4-$24) has 49 selections, highlighted by a "volcano" California roll that's sliced, stacked and coated with a creamy (and explosively hot) orange chili sauce. For dessert, the green tea pudding melts in your mouth. The sophisticated, peaceful decor has wonderful diffused lighting. Dark cherry tables sit on a tile floor. But what tops everything are the bows. The hostesses and servers bow to you as you enter the restaurant, as you sit down and every time one of them approaches your table. When you leave, the entire staff bows to you progressively, like a line of falling dominoes. A great place to dine for IllumiNations, the second-story restaurant overlooks the World Showcase Lagoon. Five tables sit right up against the glass. Lunch, dinner. 116 seats."

Now THAT is helpful! Every other restaurant is treated this same way. I rest my case. I can't believe some of the other comments that say it's not detailed enough. My guess is that those reviews are referring to the 2007 version.

By the way, this book would be worth it if you never read one word, for the hundreds of beautiful and unusual photographs. Every page will make you feel like you are right there in Disney World.
