Book Reviews of The Contender

Book Review: Contender Review
Summary: 2 Stars

Alred is a grungy boy with no life. He seems to be a loser since he droped out of school and now has to work at a grocery store. My opinion of The Contender was not that good. I did not enjoy it that much. You may think diffrent because your a diffrent person but if your like me then you wont! They kept seeming to mention the black people are all ghetto and thats not true. Yea, some black people may be ghetto but they have no right to say that all black people are. I thought the only good part it is that it gives hope and encouragement that no matter what you go through as a child or during you life, you will always do anything you put your heart to. Thats just my opinion.

Book Review: Contender review
Summary: 2 Stars

I thought that the Contender was just an o.k. book. I do not enjoy reading, at all. Although the book was about boxing it never really caught my attention. It was one of those books that you would consier "dull". I feel that I was very generous to have given this book 2 stars.

Book Review: Dissappointment
Summary: 4 Stars

The Contender is a very good book. I suggest that anyone who want to get some encouraging words of being a boxer should read part of this book. I call this book a dissappointment because a suspected more. More in meaning a better more exciting ending. It was ok for what Alferd(the main character) did for his friend but I wish he could of a least had a killing instinct so he could have been a champion. That was the dissapointing part to me, that he was soft and didn't like to hurt people but he was in the sport of boxing, it was very dissapointing.

Book Review: Entertaing and Action Packed
Summary: 4 Stars

When picked this book I knew the story about a kid who wants to box. I had no idea how intense it was.

Alfred Brooks fell into the stereotype for a kid from Harlem. He was a high school dropout who finally wanted something more for himself. There was just one problem, his friends. Alfred decides to join a gym and try to become a professional boxer. Through the story there are numerous training sessions and matches as well as run-ins with his old friends who've turned on him.

Alfred's former best friend James is the one friend he doesn't want to let go of. Throughout the story he tried to get him back. What confuses me is why James didn't see that Alfred was a real friend and not those dummies he was hanging out with now.
I thought that the boxing matches were the thing that really made the story. The details of him with his trainers in the locker room prior to the match, and during the matches were outstanding. One in particular was the match against the older, stronger fighter, and he would' give up. I love that action.

I'd recommend this book for anyone if you love sport books, and boxing in particular this would be a great book for you. The action in it is intense and realistic, you'd swear that you were n the ring with him. If you love that kind of book this one is for you.

Book Review: Exciting Book For Teens, Adults And Children
Summary: 4 Stars

I think THE CONTENDER is a great book for people to read because their are a lot of thing in that book that a very interesting. It talks about thing that are going on in today's society. Also, you will see how bad some friend's really are and Alfred had to find out the hard way. I think that everyone should read this.
