Book Reviews of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

Book Review: a great book, funny sad and informative!!!!!
Summary: 4 Stars

Christopher has decided to launch an investigation into a mysterious incident in his neighbourhood....unfortunately most people don't share his enthusiasm in trying to find out the truth.....from there on in we travel with Christopher through his world.........THIS IS A GREAT BOOK......I was unsure about it before I had read it but it seemed to be so popular that I took a chance...I'm glad that I did...This is a funny and sad book.It shows us how difficult it is being the parent of a child with a disability and how difficult it is to be a genius who doesn't quite understand how the world and people work....I read this book really quickly... it is enthralling, charming, funny and educational. It is not too sad a read but instead it is enlightening and its use of illustrations helps to move the story along....I can't recommend it enough....BUY IT NOW!!!!!

Book Review: A wonderful, informative and very very funny book
Summary: 5 Stars

This novel is the story of Christopher, who is 15 years old and autistic. Christopher is a mathematic genius, but he cannot understand human emotions.
It is, however, by no means a "worthy" book. As both a grittily realistic and a fantastically madcap story, the mystery begins with the killing of a neighbor?s poodle. Determined to discover who stuck a garden pitchfork into poor Wellington, Christopher begins his investigation in the spirit of his hero Sherlock Holmes, "detaching his mind at will" from anything not relating to the problem to be solved.
The Curious Incident then, is Christopher's own unique take on the baffling and mystifying way in which the world works.Autism is a disorder characterized by introversion and an inability to communicate with others, and the inner world of those afflicted has always been a mystery. Thank goodness then, that Mark Haddon has decided to reveal it to us in a sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes hysterically funny way.

Book Review: Excellent & nothing else
Summary: 5 Stars

I had two books on the bed. I started the other one. Then I picked up this one - and I failed to put it down. I read it within a day - the gaps only due to my need for sleep.

Told through the point of view of someone who is autistic, it is an incredibly unusual and refreshing book. Logic, in its purest form, applies here. And it's not a simple murder (of the dog) mystery either. It's a journey of enlightenment for Christopher Boone, our protagonist. Gut wrenching emotions follow: protection; sympathy; empathy.

This book is absolutely excellent and I very rarely give 5 stars - but this one is worth every one of them. I'm a crime fiction fan, but this is not necessarily crime fiction at all. This is an excellent novel, and very worthy of winning the awards for which it is nominated at this time.

Book Review: Curious, Insightful, Compelling - and very easy to read!
Summary: 5 Stars

I read "The Curious Incident..." while on holiday and at a time when I was definitely not in a mood for 'difficult' books on sensitive or intellectual subjects. And this is the first time I have felt I wanted to contribute a review!

What a lovely book - I was hooked from the start by the people and the story and by the gentle jolts into different ways of perceiving the world around me. I loved the patterns of thought and logic within the book. Rather than talking to the taxi driver taking me home from the airport about details of my holiday, I found myself talking to him about this book, and recommending it to him as a must read.

It works on more than one level - as a mystery, definitely, but also, if you want to be literary or academic about it, as a text on the nature of the novel. Why shouldn't illustrations and equations be part of a novel?

I just loved this and feel privileged to have read it. And it's good holiday reading as well!!

Book Review: Short review
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of the funniest and at the same time a very sad book.
If you have some prior knowledge of autists, you'll recognize the problems, and if not, this will help you to understand how their brains work.
Absolutely a great book, recommended everyone!
