I've been looking forward to reading more about Reyes and Danika since reading The Darkest Night (Lords of the Underworld, Book 1). I was keen to see what part Danika and her family plays in this Greek saga. Why has Cronus commanded Aeron to kill these innocent women? Now my question has been answered. In spite of the slow start, the revelation that unfolds is quite interesting and promises more excitement for the series. I do admit that I wasn't exactly blown away by the romance. Indeed, neither was I with the first two books. However, what I really like about this series is the underlying plot, the vicious Titans, the continuing battle between good and evil and the intriguing search for the mysterious artefacts protected by the ever-elusive Hydra. C'mon Hydra, show your scaly head!
There is also the added subplot featuring Paris, which continues on from the second book. It is proving to be a whirlwind of emotions, one that I am eagerly awaiting to read more of. And for those looking for some fun, Aeron's new friend Legion will have you grinning. A scaly demon that thinks she's pretty and infatuated with Aeron? You get the drift...
Humor aside, THE DARKEST PLEASURE is at times gritty and graphic. The author doesn't gloss over the details. The description of Reyes' self-mutilation may probably put some readers off; however, apart from that bathroom scene I could have done without, I felt that they were essential to Reyes' struggles and makes the reader really cheer for him when he finally finds some solace with Danika.
