Book Reviews of The Day I Turned Uncool: Confessions of a Reluctant Grown-upBook Review: Great book! Summary: 5 StarsAs a twenty-something, I read this book and found hilarious some of the things he refers to that were totally cool to do (dumpster dive for furniture) that wouldn't pass at a later age. Or also not being able to stay out late and party, or things that sounded totally boring are actually enjoyable at a later age. Very funny!
Book Review: Hilarious look at the world as it has become... Summary: 4 StarsI'm a few years younger than Zevin, but his book hit home. It is laugh out loud funny. An incredibly quick read, but I found myself recommending it everyone I knew--it is well worth the [$$$]. At a few points, Zevin reads like a younger version of Joe Queenan (only nicer). I love Queenan so I mean that as high compliment. Zevin strikes chords hilarious (like the manners chapter--his description of "Nick" the future drug dealer is priceless) and sentimental (see his chapter on his time in Spain and Denmark). He clearly loves his wife and that is a refreshing change from some other young writers. Whatever Zevin has cookin' next, I'm there.
Book Review: Fabulously entertaining Summary: 4 StarsThis was awesome entertainment in short bursts. I hadn't stopped laughing at one chapter and the another fit would follow. Had a lot of fun reading reading it. It was light in both quantity and definitely quality. Even though I am much younger than the audience in question, I can totally relate to all of the author's experiences having seen so many friends go through the "reluctancy" phase.
Book Review: I wanna be uncool like Dan Summary: 5 Starsa fantastic, quick, laugh-out-loud read.
Book Review: you can tell Dan's a really nice guy Summary: 5 StarsThis book will make you laugh out loud, and consider the fact that you're going through many of the same things. I turned thirty a month and a half ago, and lately I've found myself doing all kinds of crazy things - like calling the cops on my neighbors who would simply not stop the party, even though it was really late on a Sunday night. I haven't taken up golf (yet), but I do live in a "fixer-uper" starter house, and I worry about money and the future every day - I found myself relating to the author. Give this book a try, you won't regret it.
