Georgina Spelvin's long-awaited memoir is the most insightful record of a major adult film star's life and career currently in print. Written with the kind of detail and emotional honesty that would make for a fine Spelvin bio-pic (indie producers, are you out there?), The Devil Made Me Do It sheds new light on the history of Golden Age porn as well as offering unprecedented access to the inner life of a lively, intelligent and clear-sighted lady who never wastes a moment on either retrospective regret or undue vanity. Despite struggles with her own personal demons (and hey - who the heck doesn't have them?), Spelvin's book is not so much the story of a "true survivor" as it is that of a true optimist who follows her own best instincts and learns to make peace with her fears. Beautifully crafted and highly entertaining, The Devil Made Me Do It is a splendid literary achievement.
