Book Reviews of The Double Agents (Men at War)Book Review: Another great book by W.E.B. Summary: 5 Stars
I really enjoy Mr. Griffin's stories. His characters kind of seem real and their sense of humor in the face of danger makes for fun reading. I can lose myself in his books and just enjoy the story.
Book Review: Another miserable effort from a once-great writer Summary: 1 Stars
WEB Griffin's "The Double Agents" is as terrible, if not more so, than last year's "The Saboteurs". Like that previous tepid offering from WEBG and son, The Double Agents is a shining example of literary mediocrity. This book reads NOTHING like WEBG's "The Brotherhood of War", "Honor Bound" or "The Corps" series', which were true classics...shining examples of thrilling, well-written, rich works. Do not buy this book in hardcover format unless you like throwing away your money. If you check it out from the library (for free) there will be enough value in the material to make it worth your time. Otherwise, buy it at full price and risk feeling cheated and deceived by a once-great author.
Book Review: Beware The "And" Summary: 1 Stars
I picked this book up on a whim as I was leaving my local library. I'd heard of Griffin and usually like WWII-themed books, so I figured this would be a good read for the holidays. What a disappointment! All the other comments about the wooden dialog, the hollow, implausible plot elements, and the amazingly poor handling of the Nevin/Ustinov gimmick are true. All along I was wondering, "How could Griffin be so well-liked and write junk like this?" Then I noticed the "and" in the byline -- i.e. Griffin "and" Butterworth.
Others may have, like me, observed the same syndrome in Tom Clancy's "Op Center" series. I'll probably try another Griffin book sometime, but one without an "and".
Book Review: Bring back th ereal W.E.B. Griffin Summary: 2 Stars
Like so many others who have wrote a review on this book, I was very disappointed. Mr. Griffin was, to me, the Louie L'Amour of war stories. You knew they were fiction but enough research had been done and true facts intermingled that you found his books almost believable. Sad to say this book fell far short of facts and really did not hold my attention like Mr. Griffin used to do. I was looking forward to this series continuing but after this book , maybe it is time to let it pass away.
Book Review: Butterworth and Griffin fail again Summary: 1 Stars
I guess one of the best writers has fallen on hard times. It will be difficult to purchase any more of Mr. Griffin's books, or whomever is writing for him. There was no story here, only boring conversation.
Sorry
