Book Review: The duchess cooks again!

This is a classic book for children that every adult loves to read to them. Long out of print, it has now been republished by Purple House Press, a small Texas firm that could never find enough copies to satisfy demand. The rhymes are witty, literate and irresistible. The vocabulary stretches the children's imagination without ever letting on that it is educating them (and their parents) while it is amusing them. The duchess bakes a cake, adding so much yeast that the cake outgrows the castle, let alone the oven. Disaster looms until the youngest daughter solves the problem: they'll have to eat their way out.This has been a favourite in our house for 25 years, as have some of the other titles now available again and rescued from the darkness by Purple House.
