Book Review: Sock Exploration

The Eclectic Sole is a wonderful trip into a wide and varying journey of sock patterns and design. There are explanations for those like me who knit well, but need help with stitch definitions etc. These original designs reach out to a variety of knitters both in ability and styles. It is also a great place to take advantage of one's homespun if one is a spinner as well as knitter. Another fun thing is to use pieces of design and pattern in different combinations. I think Rivendell is my favorite. :) It seems there is an infinity of sock patterns and books out there, but this one is a high favorite, well written, understandable, and as it says... eclectic.Book Review: The Eceletic Sole

A great sock book. I was proud to add it to my library. The socks are beautiful and challenging, but I bought it for the Rivendell sock, certainly one of the loveliest socks out there.

Book Review: The Eclectic Sole - Too Eclectic for a Novice Knitter

I love this book - it has wonderful patterns and clever ideas BUT it also has a lot of missing information. If you aren't a really experienced knitter and an old hand at reading patterns and charts, you might get frustrated with the minor errors and ommisions in the text. And, you might give up because you don't know how to "fix" the situations you encounter as a result! I went to the author's website to check for errata for the first pattern I worked on and was surprised to find nothing there (so in all fairness, I plan to provide my feedback to her). I also noted that the website indicated that the new, second edition was in the works, so I thought that might be why I found problems in my copy. Imagine my surprise when I looked at my book and found it to be a "third" edition!Book Review: The Electic Sole

Janel is a very talented knitter. She's a member of my knitting guild and I'm thrilled to have her book.
The patterns are fun and I can't wait to get started - my yarn is already selected for one of the patterns. But, first I have to finish a jacket.
After reading the patterns, they seemed easy to follow which is always a good thing.
