Book Reviews of The Eight Human Talents: Restore the Balance and Serenity within You with Kundalini YogaBook Review: Powerful stuff! Summary: 4 StarsWhile i appreciate the reviewer who offered the information on yogi bhajan's story, I think it's important to note that the world is full of successful people who achieved greatness after hitting a profound low - unemployed, powerless, impoverished, etc. at which time they became inspired to create something extraordinary. And, having practiced many forms of yoga (Iyengar is my favorite) I still find that doing Kundalini once in a while has a profound effect. I can't do it often because it is tremendously stimulating and I get mentally agitated if i try to do it more than 2 days in a row. But just once clears up tensions and previously unnoticed physical problems of the prior weeks/months! I love Gurmukh and highly recommend her teachings - with the only reservation being that one should be very in touch with how it feels as it goes along, so as not to overdo.
Book Review: know about 3HO, Rick Ross and Guru Bhajan Summary: 3 StarsFirst, the book is nicley written and the exercises may or may not work. i noticed a rise in energy and old patterns coming up, might or might not be outcome of directed intent ... ( i do a lot of systems, from asthanga, hartha to martial arts and pilates) I immersed myself in kundalini yoga before i found out about who yogi bhajan, the founder of the system, truly is (a former taxi driver who feld from India and claims to have recieved these exercises from spirit after spending time in a cave. he founded kundalini yoga AFTER he couldn't make money in NY as a cab driver and arrived in LA, thrilled by the "mayan riches" of the upper - class society there. traditional sikh say what he does has nothing to do with their system and really put the emphasis on that he is a cheat. search the internet for information, especially sites from the rick ross institute http://www.rickross.com/reference/3ho/3hovisitor.html
3HO, the organisation from Yogi Bhajan, the founder of Kundalini Yoga, has been labeled a cult, and is in fact a money producing machine that goes beyond kundalini yoga as physical exercises. The exercises by itself may not be bad, although some people claim that the risk of physical insury with certain exercises is a given; apparently yohi bhajan didn't know much about basic physical structure and function.
so i just wanted to pass on the info before someone decides to buy the books on kundalini yoga so everybody can come to their own conclusions in a balanced way. distinguish and listen to your guidance.. doing the exercises may not be necesarily "negative", but being sucked into a cult with dubious roots may not be something you really intend.
Book Review: The Eight Human Talents : Restore the Balance and Serenity within You with Kundalini Yoga Summary: 5 StarsThis is a wonderful book which explains the 8 chakras in detail and describes Kundalini yoga excercises and meditations. It was enjoyable reading and offered insight to many areas of this study.
Book Review: It'll get you jazzed about doing kundalini, whether you're a beginner or a teacher Summary: 5 StarsThis book is not a comprehensive beginner's manual for kundalini yoga, though it does introduce some simple but effective meditations. Instead, Gurmukh shares stories from her own journey into awareness, and those of her students who have changed their lives with kundalini yoga and meditation. Her personal insights and uplifting stories make this book a worthwhile read, whether you're just getting started with kundalini yoga, or if your individual practice could use a healthy and uplifting boost.
I've been reading small snippets of this book in the early morning hours before going to group sadhana, and her little nuggets of wisdom help set my intention for my meditations and the rest of my day. I plan to give copies of this book to my families and friends to introduce them to the technology, and help them understand why I have committed to incorporating KY into my life.
Book Review: Great for Kundalini teachers Summary: 5 StarsAs a teacher of Kundalini yoga, I consider this book to be one of the basic must have books. It not only helps with identifying and working with chakras, but is easy to explain and the asanas can easily be incorporated or organized with other kriyas, for personalization of class for a client. Thank you, Gurmukh!
