Intellectual challenge is the trademark of Dr. Sitchin's books. As usual, his work is fascinating. But this time he approaches his topic from a wider perspective. Sitchin has churned out so many of these fantasy-delusional little volumes, its rather amazing. And what's even more amazing is how large the legion of True Believers is who take anything Sitchen offers as Gospel.
Other "UFO/Aliens = The Gods" authors, such as Neal Freer ( Breaking the Godspell ) base their work on Sitchin's fantasy. In fact, a whole mythology - a whole reality-tunnel - has been formed thanks to Sitchen's imagination and misinterpretation of ancient artifacts.
This book contains Sitchin's loopy views on just what the "End Times" REALLY mean and why. Nonsense, of course, but don't tell the True Believers that! Instead direct them to a good dose of REALITY at sitchiniswrong. com ! This is the website by Dr. Michael Heiser, a Ph.D and M.A., in ancient Semitic languages AND in both ancient Egyptian history and ancient Hebrew history. Heiser's site clearly and conclusively exposes Sitchin's sloppy and, at times, completely inaccurate and incompetent interpretation of ancient languages like Sumerian. The site also offers a DVD presentation featuring FIVE different lectures done by Heiser as he focuses on various aspects of Sitchin's "facts" and "theories" and systematically destroys ALL of them through the use of excellent examples of grammer, texts, scrolls, artwork, clay tablets, etc. Heiser knows Nibiru, the Nephilim, the Anunaki, etc., inside and out, and he DESTROYS Sitchin and his nonsense - utterly! For example; Heiser shows how "Nibiru" was NEVER considered as a planet by ANY ancient culture of the Middle East! Instead it was thought to be an entity connected to the planet Jupiter! Equally, the Anunaki were ALWAYS thought of as SPIRIT BEINGS, not extraterrestrials AND NO MIDDLE EASTERN CULTURE EVER THOUGHT OF THEM AS INHABITING NIBIRU!!!!!
*** Also worth considering is the open, public challenge which Heiser has issued to Sitchin for a debate on every last idea and "Fact" Sitchin has been promoting in his many swindling books. This open challenge has been on the net for years and has been repeatedly stated verbally by Heiser on many occasions, and of course, Sitchin has never responded! ***

I've been a Sitchin fan for about eight years since I first discovered his books. I was impressed, but also bothered then by some of his unsupported speculation as he connected the dots as he saw them. But I kept hoping as time went by that science and other research would back him up. He's tried very hard to look for that, too. I don't believe in supernatural beings, nor any religion, and I am still unconvinced that ETs exist. But the ancient writings strongly suggest SOMEBODY did SOMETHING that is a historical basis for the stories and pictures.
I liked the way he tied the Sumerians into later Hebrew/Jewish history as recorded in the OT and by other ancient civilizations. I know the OT extremely well (not a Jew or Christian, tho) and have been a dedicated student of legends, myths and religions from all over the world. I also study many fields of science. which it seems Sitchin has little interest in now.
I've concluded, to my sorrow, that Zecharia has fallen into the trap of the True Believer. "The End of Days" is Sitchin as latter day Prophet. He is no longer the impartial researcher and seeker of ancient origins; he seems to have returned to his Jewish roots and has annointed Yahweh as the One and Only God (but where in hell did Yahweh come from and was he an anunaki? Sitchin at one time suggested Yahweh was the Sumerian storm god), that the ancient Hebrews and their descendants were indeed the chosen people, that the OT prophets really foretold the future (which is still not completely fulfilled), AND that Enki, Marduk and Enlil and all the rest of the merry band of gods now residing again on Niburu (Heaven) or Mars or somewhere out there, but who will return, depending on which set of dots and/or zodiacal numbers or calendars or OT prophecies you prefer. Sitchin has become an exploiter of recent popular novels like "The DaVinci Code" and the current American Far-Right buzz about Armageddon.
I have now tired of his focus on the Middle East as the only place that really matters in ancient times, the present, or indeed in humanity's future. He has never really addressed how the Anunaki happened to be so much like modern humans (they were able to successfully fornicate with and impregnate human women), mix their DNA with pre-modern primates by a crude form of implanting eggs, semen or something, or come up with much to explain or describe their supposed advanced technology. Just how DID they build the pyramids? And that idea about gold being needed for their planet's atmosphere? Give me a break. Well, after all, the Sumerian/Akkadian tablets were written by the humans, not the gods. And the talk about Mission Control, rocket ships etc. - terms that belong to the '60s and '70s early space-age that are already outdated doesn't work.
So I bid Mr. Sitchin goodbye, and thanks for the wild ride that didn't go anywhere. I'm still looking for those elusive answers.
