Book Reviews of The Expectant Father: Facts, Tips and Advice for Dads-to-Be, Second EditionBook Review: outstanding Summary: 5 StarsThis book is great, because it gives solid, practical advice on handling a preganancy. And not just how-to-deal-with-your-wife, but also the things the man is going through and the stuff the man can actually do himself (saving for college, for example).
Book Review: Excellent for getting the guy point-of-view Summary: 5 StarsThis book is a must-read for all new fathers. It has humorus cartoons. The stories are also funny, and realistic. When I read the experinces and emotions that Armin A. Bott went through they made me laugh, but yet I realized I was going through the same experiences and asking the same quesitons like "how will I hold up in the delivery room" and "is this really real, or am I feeling an alien in my wife's tummy?" I especially liked chapter 5 on "The Lights are on and somebody's home" that details the baby moving and talking to your baby in the womb. It sounds starange, but their is reason behind it, as Bott points out from clinical studies that have been done. The chapter on labor and delivery is also good information with humor dispersed, making it fun to read.
Book Review: Ok to skim through Summary: 3 StarsConsidering that there are very few books for expectant fathers, this book is a necessary purchase. The month-to-month synopses of physical and emotional changes happening to my wife were interesting. However, much of the book is obvious (e.g. how to save money for college) or over done (such as the section on symapthetic weight gain). Overall, I learned more by looking at my wife's books than I did from "The Expectant Father."
Book Review: New Dad's to be MUST buy this book! Summary: 5 StarsThis is a must buy for a brand new dad. Of all
the books that I have bought on having a new baby, this proved to be the most informative and the book that I return to on a regular basis as a reference. It not only addresses the development of the baby, but the development of the new family. I found that it's insight into the emotional changes that my wife and I were experiencing were remarkably synchopated with our actual experience. I also found it to be very easy to read and follow. I would describe it as an ideal companion book to 'the girlfriends guide to pregnancy', and would recommend both new parents to read both books to get the male and female perspective of the experience. If you have to buy one book as a new daddy, have this be the one. I have just purchased the follow-on book, 'the new father' with the hopes that it equally illuminates the first year of the newborn.
