Book Review: Engaging stories of hard times

Mr. Laxton offers a well-researched account of the incredible challenges that each Irish immigrant must have faced in the most trying of times. The book's portrayal of the misery, hunger, and despair suffered during the long Transatlantic voyage was palpable. However, the lack of an identifiable and coherent theme over the course of 24 chapters was disappointing and often frustrating. Nevertheless, the book was compelling and a must for descendants of Irish immigrants of that period.
