Book Review: At last-the story is told!

This excellent book by Molinaro and Black was published to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the Fender Precision Bass.
It is a treasure-trove of information on, not surprisingly, Precision and Jazz Basses and the photography is superb. The text is not overdone,and is easy to read,with good continuity.Curiously, the Coronado bass barely gets a mention;the Musicmaster not at all. Fender's quite massive,high-quality and varied non-USA production both under Fender and Squier brand-names is hardly touched upon, and this is a pity. For instance, on page 91 we're told that the company is now offering an American-made '75 Jazz Reissue, but no mention or photo of the excellent Japanese '75 that preceded it. This almost 20-year old contribution to the company's balance-sheet, including many innovative and high quality instruments, is passed over.On the other hand, there is a section on tuners, decals, bridges, etc.,and a photographs of various stages of production. However, what are missing are photos of the basses actually being played by bassists -it would have added an interesting slant to the book. Musical instruments only come alive, after all, in the hands of musicians.
This book is a very welcome addition to existing literature on this important family of instruments. Well done, Messrs.Molinaro and Black!
