Book Reviews of The Five People You Meet in HeavenBook Review: The best book I have ever read Summary: 5 StarsThe five People You Meet in Heaven is undoubtedly the most outstanding book I have ever read. The way Mitch Albom brings heaven 'alive' in this book is phenomenal. A book about death was never meant to be this engaging. Eddie's death at the start of the book is contrasted with the 5 people he meets when he gets to heaven, each with information to give Eddie. The book is heartwarming and it brings a tear to even the most hard hearted. I have bought all of my friends and family this book as part of their birthday present this year and they too have all absolutely loved it.
Book Review: Unforgettable Summary: 5 StarsA spontaneous buy on no real recommendation, the blurb for this novel intrigued me. I was not disappointed; other than with the fact I had not read it sooner! The work is moving and thought-provoking, often leaving me with tears on my cheeks that I could not explain. I read it in one 3-hour sitting, simultaneously not wanting it to end and dying to reach it. It provided an excellent introduction to Albom's work that left me wanting to go out and but everything the American has ever written. His style is amazing; accessible and poetic, his use of everyday language depicts feelings that will be familier to anyone who has ever lost someone, loved, or felt discontent with their life. A clever portrayal of one man's idea of an afterlife that is satisfying in its explanation of all the miseries of this life, the novel should not be missed and never forgotten.
Book Review: Touching, Moving Novel Summary: 5 StarsI'm always looking for books that will touch me, provoke me, give me pause to think. Such was the case here with THE FIVE PEOPLE YOU MEET IN HEAVEN. It's a story relevant to every human being: a tale of mortality, a questioning of the meaning and purpose of life. Now that all sounds very heavy, but I assure you it's not. This novel poses many of life's most important questions in a very gentle way. It's entertainment as well as art. So give this book an opportunity; if it causes you to think about your own life, and let go of regrets, then it's certainly worth a moment of your time. Enjoy! Also recommended: TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE, THE LOSERS CLUB by Richard Perez -- two other Amazon quick-pick purchases that I enjoyed.
Book Review: uplifting and contentment Summary: 5 StarsA story about a man aged 83 who dies trying to save the life of a young child and how his life on earth is explained to him in heaven by 5 people whose lives were somehow affected by him. It made me feel content with life and at times made me sad and the ending would bring a tear to a glass eye. It was a book that I didn't want to end and certainly one of the best I have ever read. I immediately ordered Tuesdays with Morrie and can't wait to open the first page. If you read one book this year make it this one. Well done Mr Albom. More please.
Book Review: I just couldn't put it down! Summary: 5 StarsLike many of the other reviewers here, I bought this book on impulse because I thought it sounded such a fascinating and original idea, and I wasn't disappointed. I started reading it yesterday afternoon and stayed up til midnight until I had finished it. Maybe I read the last bit a little too quickly, but I was desperate to find out what happened! I thought I had predicted who the fifth person was going to be, but I was wrong - I was shocked by this fifth person and maybe that was the only part I felt slightly puzzling. But on the whole, a great read - nicely paced, easily accessible, moving without being excessively schmaltzy, and most definitely thought-provoking. You can't help wondering what your own heaven would be and who your five people would be. Certainly worth a try - its only a short book and I don't think it would be time wasted. I am now planning to get a copy of Tuesdays with Morrie and looking forward to that.
