Book Review: "Out loud" funny and even moving

I don't know everything about Abbey, but it is my understanding that this book is a bit different than most of his work in that it is a fictional novel (as opposed to an essay, etc.), and it is not in the vein of the "Monkey Wrench Gang" line of outright environmental pieces. I loved this book when I read it. Regardless of Abbey's politics or the pro-environment overtones, this is just a captivating story and a well-written one. Not to be cliche, but I found some scenes to be "LOL" funny (not common for me). And, the build up to the ending was truly moving (particularly in light of Abbey's demise soon after this book). Whatever led you to Abbey, if you are thinking about this book, it is worth the read. I do not agree with all of the Abbey points of view, but I didn't need to in order to enjoy this tale.
