Book Reviews of The Footprints of GodBook Review: One of the greatest SF novel Summary: 5 StarsI have read this book over several years at least 3 times.
I can not imagine anyone who likes excitment and a great writer would not love this book.
We are so close now to inventing the first quantum computer. Will it be like the one this book ..well let's hope not. It's excitment from the beginning till the end.
I would tell any and every Science Fiction reader to read this.
You will not put it down.
Book Review: Not his best, but still better than most. Summary: 3 StarsWhile I don't think Mr. Iles' Footprints of God was as good as the other two works of his that I have read, Black Cross and Sleep No More, I don't think it is as bad as a lot of people that have reviewed it. I believe Mr. Iles is being penalized for writing so many other fantastic books and people are judging Footprints against his other works instead of the universe of thriller / mystery books.
The above being said, I think Footprints of God had some interesting points to consider regarding human development and the different paths we as a species may take in the near future and the ethics associated with those different paths. When a person steps back and looks at human progress, the rate at which it is happening is startling. For centuries the human race plodded along, slowly progressing. However, the 20th century brought and the new 21st century is bringing developments at a much faster pace than ever before. Where will cloning, biotechnology, chemical engineering, etc lead to?
Footprints of God is about mapping and then uploading the human brain onto a super computer, essentially creating a new life form. This allows the brain to process data and learn at a much higher rate than it could when tethered to the human body. Could this happen in the near term? I don't know, but it is an interesting and scary concept at the same time. Currently computers are still much more of a high speed processor of data, not able to actually learn; while the human brain, which is not able to deal with the large caches of data is far superior to even the fastest computers at dealing with complex issues.
Again, it's not Mr. Iles' best but I think it's an entertaining and thought provoking read that should be considered over many other books out there.
Book Review: A Great Hook!!! Summary: 5 StarsThis is the first Greg Iles book that I read. This book is my all time favorite book of his so far (I've read 8 so far) and is also a serious contender for the best book I've ever read! Reading it is like being on a roller coaster. It starts off a little slow, going uphill to get everything set and then you're off. The story keeps getting faster and faster and more and more interesting. The story is one that is plausible, and the characters are very believable. An excellent story with lots of action, adventure and intelligence.
An excellent hook into Greg Iles's novels. From here, try any of his other books for more adventures.
Book Review: This was a Greg Iles book? Summary: 1 StarsI have always loved all the Greg Iles books I've read, but this one is pure dreck. It is sci-fi, new age, and anti-Biblical. What a waste of my time.
Book Review: Meta cognition, metaphysics, metamorphs Summary: 3 StarsFootprints of God is a thriller for thinkers, revolving as it does around the universal mysteries about life, death, consciousness, God, and the nature of reality. Zig zagging rapidly from one crisis to another, it manages to hook you into the story line very early. Although some aspects of the plot lack originality (the psychiatrist/patient relationship and a series of impossible escapes, for instance), the techno-science here is eye-openingly credible, comprehensible, and, like most new advances, morally ambiguous and a bit frightening. Issues of faith and religion are evenly handled, devoid of preachiness and proselytizing. On the down side, characters are types (ruthless security agent, evil general, all-American president) rather than full-blown individuals, and the book is too long, leading to a rather silly end-of- the-world scenario. Nevertheless, Footprints is thought-provoking and exciting enough to keep the reader turning pages. 3 stars.
