Book Review: great depression era account
Summary: 4 Stars
This book fantastically covered Hoover's and FDR's presidencies with great context. It layed out the foundation of Roosevelt's Brain Trust of academics and Wall Street/power utility owner power players. I enjoyed how it covered Roosevelt's agencies and their controllers; such as his AAA(Agricultural Adjustment Act), TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority, WPA (Works Progress Administration, PWA (Public Works Administration), etc.. It provided relevant information of that time with the story of Bill Wilson (Alcoholics Anon. Founder) Andrew Mellon (and his favor to art haha),etc... It mentions Roosevelt's extreme grasp for power with his taking over of the Supreme Court and ignoring the restraints placed on him, and the government, in the Constitution. I found the government seeking further power through the building of dams and creeping into the electric power industry to be relevant to todays grasp for health care (16% of our economy) and the cap and trade regulation on prosperity. Overall, this is a wonderful book, an easy read, and a great look back into one of America's toughest periods and a President's lust for complete control.
