Book Review: A beautiful art book and an excellent companion piece to the movie!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an excellent art book (published by RIZZOLI) and companion piece to the movie! It is like looking at photographic essays of some of the most compelling scenes and close-ups from the film. It is meant to stimulate artistic reactions and it succeeds very well in doing that. You can place this on your coffee table and it will certainly encourage discussions of the movie, Hugh, Rachel, and even the artbook quality of this publication.

I also found the inclusion of the screenplay very useful in understanding and appreciating the movie. I have read and re-read parts together and it allowed me to recheck "facts" and the backgrounds from which the scenes emanate, which I missed from the fast-moving movie scenes ( even if the movie is not extraordinarily fast-paced), plus I have enjoyed the moments of reflection and introspection better.

I loved the movie and I think this book makes the experience even more exhilarating.

Book Review: Don't waste the money
Summary: 1 Stars

Don't waste your time on this, it's nothing but a glorified comic book

Book Review: This isn't what it claims to be!
Summary: 2 Stars

So, I purchased this book under the assumption that the book description was an accurate representation of what I would come to find in the book, but I have to say I'm largely dissappointed.

The description boasts "observations from creators Ari Handel and Darren Aronofsky" and that this book is a "thoughtful meditation on the film's provocative themes of life and death and its singular visuals." There is only one miniscule page of insight from Darren, and it resides within the final page of the script.

I'm finding it difficult to remain satisfied with this when I was looking for so much more from this book. There is not a word from Ari Handel, something that I was especially looking forward to. There are no further "meditations" on the films themes, or potential messages. To top it all off, I've previously read the singular page of insight into the film's creation through an interview/article about the production of "The Fountain", so really this book has nothing to offer.

I'm not entirely upset, but I can't understand how the description turned out the way it did and I simply wish that it wasn't so damned misleading. Perhaps the book was originally intended to include more information, and maybe this description was directly tied to that.

Whatever the reason, this book is simply not as the description would lead you to believe.

Book Review: Don't Bother
Summary: 1 Stars

What a waste. Why was this book even made. Look, I loved the movie but this book is standard and boring. Please note this is NOT the graphic novel of the same name. Basically this is a book full of photos from the movie, with major emphasis on Racheal (Darren's Wife). It's not so much a rehash of the movie as it is literally stills from the movie. Most of the photos have stupic and pointless graphics over them for no reason other then to ruin the photo. A few of the photos are nice, but others, like the scene where Thomas is being devoured by the plants is covered but paint splotches...why?! Also, there is absolutely no written content here. No explanation, no directors thoughts...no insight into the cool special effects. Nothing. There was one page in the book that was nice and it was a two page spread of the neat space he created. That was a bout it. Please do not waste your money. I am a HUGE fan of the movie, HUGE! but this book was a complete waste! Get the graphic novel, not this. Trust me. Darren A. should be ashamed of this. No effort was put into it at all.
