Book Reviews of The FrontBook Review: An okay read Summary: 3 Stars
This book was definitely not one of Patricia Cornwell's best books. It was okay, and I had no trouble getting thru it, but I think I am just partial to her other characters. The DA in this book was so unlikeable that I almost didn't want to finish reading it. She wasn't a character that was easy to relate to, and you knew she had an agenda planned because she was a "user". On the other hand, that was what did keep me reading..trying to figure out her agenda....which was the main point of this book. So, if you can adjust to the characters, then you might like this book....But I just prefer Kay Scarpetta....she's just got the whole package!
Book Review: Another "Win" for Cornwell Fans Summary: 4 Stars
I, too, received an advanced copy of Patricia Cornwell's latest novel, "The Front". As an avid reader of her Scarpetta novels, I looked forward to reading another of her series books. "The Front" is the follow-up book to "At Risk". Though I had not read "At Risk", I found this storyline easy to follow and the characters well-written.
"The Front" is an excellent who-done-it... you are not even sure at some turns what the "it" is exactly. The plot twists keep the pages turning in this novel. The main characters - Win Garano, a Massachussetts State Police detective, and Monique Lamont, the Boston area Distict Attorney, have an interesting relationship that was established in the book "At Risk" but you are privy to the basics of it in this novel. They are characters with whom the reader can associate. The D.A. that appears hard due to a rape occurring the year before, and the detective that has the appearances of living the "good life" but really shops EBay, thrift stores, and finds ways to get discounts for off-duty work.
The story goes from Boston to London, involving Scotland Yard, appearing to try to solve a 40+ year old murder of a Bristish citizen that could possibly be attributed to the Boston Strangler. Scotland Yard isn't interested in Lamont's murder -- they want Lamont. Believing her to be funding terrorist activities, the Yard, as well as the FBI, investigate Lamont and use her interest in the Boston Strangler theory as a way in. Is Lamont funding terrorism, or the victim of a bad investment move?
Thriller fans, pick this one up! It does not dissapoint!
Book Review: Another Cornwell thriller Summary: 4 Stars
Fans of "At Risk" will love the second in the series starring Win, Nana and Miss Dog. The characters are intriguing and the plot is fast-paced. Ms. Cornwell is staying on track with this worthy sequel.
Book Review: Another Gem! Summary: 5 Stars
Patricia Cornwell has a real knack for developing characters in a way that gets to the reader's heart. The lives of Win and Nana are more than interesting and I feel connected to them already, even though this is only their second appearance. As a Scarpetta fan, it was hard for me to believe that a totally new cast of characters could be created that I would become instantly involved in...but that is just what happened. The characters are full of surprising quirks as in real life and the story is classic Cornwell..with all the different threads of the story neatly coming together to provide a great ending. I enjoyed this book and look forward to more outings with Win, Stump, Nana and Lamont.
Book Review: Another Great Book by Cornwell Summary: 5 Stars
I already cannot wait to read more about Win, Stump, and Nana. This book is filled with twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat! Cornwell once again must have completed a substantial amount of research for this novel. She developed her characters beautifully in this novel, I couldn't wait to read what the unpredictable Nana would say next.
