Book Reviews of The GenoType Diet: Change Your Genetic Destiny to live the longest, fullest and healthiest life possibleBook Review: Great Book! Summary: 5 StarsI just recently read this book. yes, at first it seems more complicated than the BTD, buts ite more "custom" than the btd also. Just to add to one review - just because some of your favorite foods are on the "avoid" list doesn't mean its a bad thing. sometimes the worst foods for you, are your favorites. But overall I would say that this book is very good and I highly recommend it. Will add later after I've had a chance to "try" it out.
Book Review: Interesting, but I'm not convinced Summary: 3 StarsThis had some interesting information, but after taking the test and finding my genotype, while it describes me accurately, after looking at what I should (and should not) eat, this really left me hanging. Out of all the foods listed, there are about eight that I would care to eat. All my favorite foods -- the fruits and veggies I love -- are on the "forbidden" list, and the foods I "should" eat, for the most part, I don't like. I guess I could lose weight on it, because I would be eating practically nothing. I do think you will enjoy discovering your genotype, however, and maybe you will get more satisfactory results.
Book Review: A more complicated version of the Blood Type Diet Summary: 4 StarsThe GenoType Diet is eerily similar to the blood type diet. Instead of 4 blood types, he has broken everyone into six genotypes. Foods are still broken into superbeneficial, beneficial, neutral, and avoids. D'adamo just uses different wording. Type Os will be a Hunter or a Gatherer, most type As will be a Teacher or a Warrior, Most Bs will be a Nomad or a Gatherer, and ABs will most likely be a Warrior or a Nomad. The Explorer is the only free-for-all type. The test itself is very particular, it includes leg size, teeth shape, finger length and wrist size. It does not take long but I can see where someone could pick the wrong type.
I think he has tried to fuse a body type diet approach with his blood type theories, which isn't a new approach, but to his credit, this plan is laid out much better than previous attempts (Gittleman's Your Body Knows Best, Gabriel Cousen's Conscious Eating, etc). There is a lot of good information, but I have read Eat Right for your Type, Cook Right for Your Type, Live Right for your Type, Allergies:Fight it with your Blood Type, and Diabetes: Fight it with your Blood Type. Most of the information is recycled, there is some updated information. I think the diet is healthy to follow, and I will give it a whirl, but if you have read any of the Blood Type Diet Books, chances are you will be disappointed.
Most annoying are the countless references to visit his website, which by the way, you have to sign up and pay, no thank you.
Book Review: What a book! Summary: 5 StarsHaving been a devoted BTD follower for years, I anxiously awaited this book. I was curious how Dr. D'Adamo was going to take the complicated area of genetics, link it to nutrition, and simplify it in such a way that the average individual would be able to follow along, but he did just that!
With a few simple measurements, you are able to identify which individualized nutrition plan is best for you. The great thing about Dr. D'Adamo's nutritional plans is that you are not limited. It is easy to follow regardless of whether or not you are a gourmet chef or eat out all the time.
This is an ideal approach to healthy eating and lifestyle!
Book Review: Highly Recommended Summary: 5 StarsWow. I just read Dr. Peter D'Adamo's new book, The GenoType Diet, and it continues to deliver his high quality of scientific and nutritional information in a lively and accessible manner. The GTD reads like a novel, as he lays out dense genetic information in a simple and comprehensive manner.
I ran through all my calculations, and I am a Hunter. My food recommendations are broken down into two categories: Superfoods to Emphasize and Toxins to Limit or Avoid. I found this so helpful, particularly seeing the fairly short list of avoids - my first step in following the program will be to cut out all the avoids!
It's good to have Dr. D'Adamo back with his further explorations in individualized nutrition. He's much more than a diet doc as he delivers science and history with nutrition, yet his diets work! I highly recommend this book for people who are looking to loose weight as well as those who are contending with health challenges who are trying to enhance the quality of their lives and improve their physical well-being.
Bravo!
