Book Reviews of The Giver

Book Review: "The Giver" book review
Summary: 3 Stars

If I didn't have to read this book for a class I would have read three pages and put it back on the shelf. After reading it and and understanding the message the author was trying to send I realized that the book was a nice little bit of literature. It put across to me that all of the little differences in the world should be celebrated, not shunned. All of the little things in life aren't appreciated, and I think Lois Lawry is trying to tell us to wake up and look around at all of the beauty in our world before we destroy it.

Book Review: "The Giver" by Lois Lowry
Summary: 4 Stars

"The Giver" by Lois Lowry is about a boy named Jonas who lives in a community where everything is perfect. The people in the community live in a black and white world and never have to feel real physical pain. They must also follow a strict set of rules which guide their way of living. At the age of 12, Jonas and the other children in the community are assigned to do certain duties. Jonas is singled out to do a special job as the new receiver. During Jonas's training he will have to endure physical pain and learn of memories from the Giver(the old receiver). One year since Jonas's training; he can see colors instead of black and white and knows of both memories of love and war. Jonas also learns the fat of the other receiver in training 10 years ago. He also learns of the lies and deceptions his community has hidden from the public. Now, Jonas is trying to save the life of a newbourn that will be released from the community but still protect him and the memories he owns.
Over all, I liked "The Giver" but some parts of the story did leave me asking questions. Lois Lowry never really explains what happens to Jonas at the end of the book. However Jonas is briefly mentioned in "Gathering Blue" also by Lois Lowry. I think "The Giver" by is a good book for almost all ages to read and sicuss. It would probably take at least less than a week if not more to finish it. I conisider it a good read!!!=^__^=

Book Review: "The Giver" by Louis Lowry
Summary: 5 Stars

"The Giver", this is a very well written book. I like it because it makes you think about your own society. It made me think about many things, that's why it is a good book. There were many details about everything that happened. The people of that community were so immersed in there society that they didn't know what they were missing, a lot of the things we as a society take for granite. For example the color they didn't see that. Then again that's what we as a society are trying to do overlook people's differences so that everyone is treated equal, but we try and take into consideration people's differences. In conclusion this book has great feeling that most of the characters of this great book did not have.

Good job, Mr. Lowry

Book Review: "The Giver," an interesting work of fiction.
Summary: 4 Stars

The Giver is an interesting book about a world that is controlled and is void of emotions that are painful. They dont have vocabulary for certain words, they only have synonyms. The most important age for a person in the main character Jonas world is 12, the age that a person gets assigned to what he or she will do for the rest of their lives. Jonas finds out that he is going to be a Receiver, and he gets special access to all kinds of memories. When he finds out what life is all about though, Jonas decides that his perfectly constructed world is wrong, and he tries to change it. The novel is a really good one that makes you wonder if something like Jonas world will become our world someday.

Book Review: "This book stinks. I dont want to read it"
Summary: 5 Stars

Thats what i told my teacher after the first two chapters when my team was assigned this book in school. well the first two chapters were really hard to understand for me but i got it after talking with groups in class. then i slowly started to like it. When i got to chapters 8-10 i couldnt put this book down! it was simply amazing and unpredictable. Fighting Ruben Wolf used to be my favorite book, but now The Giver is. I cant wait for tommorrow(monday) cause im going strait to the libary and picking up The Messenger. and i hate books. A must read!
