Book Reviews of The GiverBook Review: A BREATHTAKING NOVEL Summary: 5 Stars
Lois Lowry really put the power in the pen on this one I give her 5 stars and 2 thumbs up, it would be 3 but I only have 2 thumbs. The Giver is a classic. A good thing about the story is that everyone is safe. On the other hand, no one is able to live his or her own life, and that's what makes the story good. So treat your self and get a copy. (J.S.)
Book Review: A Beautiful Book Summary: 5 Stars
The first time I read this book I was 10 years old, sitting in a library in my elementary school. I can honestly say, this book has the same impact on me today, as it did thirteen years ago. This beautifully written dark narrative on a Utopian society only becomes more relevant with time. It lacks the seriousness of "Brave New World" but somehow manages to be taken more seriously. Perhaps because the future described, could easily happen with today's technology. You will love it if you are 10 or 50, highly recommended.
Book Review: A Book For Everyone Summary: 5 Stars
Any reader of any age can find something appealing in "The Giver" by Lois Lowry. It is the tale of a young boy, Jonas, who lives in a world of sameness, free of pain, but also missing color, individuality, and true emotion. When Jonas is selected by his elders to become the next Receiver, the most honorable position in the community, he has no idea what to expect. As his training progresses, he learns of an entirely different world, of an Elsewhere, filled with pain and delight, misery and bliss.I read "The Giver" as a child, and was spell-bound by the story it told. Reading this book as a child, I was able to relate it to experiences in my own life: my own happiness, my own sorrow, my own pain. I recently read "The Giver" a second time, now as a senior in high school, and the book has taken on an entirely new meaning. I could relate the story to my own search for individuality as I head away from home and into the world. I would highly recommend "The Giver" to anyone of any age. This novel can be read a hundred times, and each time it will mean something different to the reader.
Book Review: A Book That Stands Out From Everything Else Summary: 4 Stars
The book The Giver was different from any other book. The lesson that it taught us was having an opinion and being an individual. It makes us think outside the box and it helped us to understand how fortunate we are. I believe this book has a good lesson and is not about courage, but breaking the rules. The author had such good discription and action that it seemed so realistic. That is one thing that isn't always in a book. But, at the end of the book it just ended and you didn't know what happened. Although some parts were good others weren't as good. Like when Jonas said that the apple had changed ,but not in shape or in any other way I didn't know what he meant. Along with when Jonas got mad at the children when they were playing war. I thought that it was confusing with what he felt. It was like he was all mixed up. Then the last part that wasn't as good was when I realized that Jonas's father killed babies that weren't normal. That was very sad. Some things that I liked about The Giver was when Jonas would receive the memories and would be happy. It felt like you were actually there. My other favorite was the Ceremony of the Twelves. That is what I thought of the review.
Book Review: A Book You Must Read Summary: 5 Stars
The Giver is one of my all time favorite books. It is well written and the story line is a very different one. The story takes place in a community where no colors and feelings exist. It is a very perfect setting for a great story like this. Read it and you'll be inspired. You'll realize that life is really worth living and there's no such thing as a perfect world.
