Book Reviews of The Glass Castle: A MemoirBook Review: Thank U JW for sharing Ur story! Summary: 5 StarsThis story captivated my from the moment I heard Jeanette talk about her childhood on "the View" - and no!, I don't normally watch that show!, I ordered it moments later. When I got it, I cried all over each page and didn't put it down until the end. It was amazing how it could be so heart-breakingly tragic, without anger or bitterness. The story will be with me, forever, and I thank JW for sharing her life.
Book Review: Unbelievable story - every American should read it Summary: 5 StarsThis is truly an inspiring story. Jeanette Walls' life is hard to fathom in this modern day, especially for me given that I am close to her age. The way she and her family bared subsisted, living like vagrants, and yet her mother always had money for art supplies and her dad for liquor...?! Her story is one of plucky perseverance and it will most likely make you realize how fortunate you were in your childhood -- I certainly felt that way. I think this should be a must-read for teenagers who complain that their car isn't nice enough, their iPod doesn't have enough songs or they don't have the latest clothes. Reading this would be quite a reality check.
Honestly, I probably would not have purchased this book on my own, but it was the required reading for my book club. I'm so glad I read it, even though it was difficult at many points and I was reduced to tears more than once. I highly recommend this story.
Book Review: Book you'll read over and over again Summary: 5 StarsThis is an amazing true story and just is so compelling. I read it in about 2 days and just really enjoyed it. I plan on reading it again.
Book Review: A touching memoir Summary: 3 StarsThe author has an amazing perspective of her life! She manages to make a childhood most would describe as miserable and horrific sound almost...fun...sometimes. I feel ashamed that I was unaware people actually lived like that. Her narrative challenged my view on homelessness and the reasons some people become homeless.
I really enjoyed reading this book, (in one day while I was home sick), and would recommend it to anyone who is becoming too comfortable taking a suburban, middle-class life for granted.
Book Review: Excellent Summary: 5 StarsThis book really captured poverty on a different level. I liked the fact that it focused on how dysfunctional a family can be, and how the young children struggled to make their own way in the world in spite of the turmoil in their upbringing. It reeled me in the moment I started reading it. I highly recommend this memoir.
