Book Review: A Balanced Account

The more I read about Timothy Treadwell, the more I see him as a complicated and extremely polarizing person. When I first read news reports about this tragedy in 2003 my knee-jerk reaction was that he was a careless individual whose actions directly caused not only his own death but also that of his girlfriend and two bears all of whom he professed his love.
However, after reading Nick Jans excellent book, watching Werner Herzog's documentary "Grizzly Man" and reading through the many on-line blogs about him, my inital reaction has been tempered because there seem to be more questions than answers about this man.
I enjoyed Nick Jans book as it seemed to present a more balanced accounting over the inflammatory on-line rantings by his detractors and often blind zealotry expressed by his supporters. Nick Jans tends to cut through this and stays pretty neutral in his approach which is why I recommend his book.
To further my study of Timothy I am currently reading his book, "Among Grizzlies" and Mike Lapinski's "Death in the Grizzly Maze." I'll write reviews for those books in the next couple of weeks. However, I'm finding that the more I read about Timothy Treadwell the more questions there are.
