Book Review: A bit unsatisfying

The first thing to keep in mind with this book is that many of these stories were written long before her other books - she points this out herself. That being said though, I didn't find this book to be as enjoyable as her other ones. Many of the stories leave you wanting more, as they don't really seem to cover enough for you to feel satisfied with them. I do realize they are short stories, but some of them attempt to cram way too much into a short story as opposed to making it longer, leaving you feeling like despite all the cramming there just wasn't enough there to really be satisfied with it.
"The Guy Not Taken" - the short story this book is named after, it's enjoyable, but more in a Hollywood movie sort of way than a short story sort of way. It's something you expect for a movie plotline, not a story you read in a book. Hopefully that one will be more enjoyable as a movie than it was as a short story, because while I enjoyed reading it, it sort of left me with my eyebrows raised at the end because it was almost too much for text as opposed to film, especially compared to the rest of the stories in the book.
"Oranges from Florida" was probably the one I enjoyed the most in this book, and the one I wish could have been expanded on more. It's different from her other stuff in that it's written from a male perspective, but it's really well done and it was fun to see things from the guy's side for once.
Otherwise, while I did like this book, I can't say I loved it or would even necessarily read it again. It's worth reading at least once, especially keeping in mind that these are older stories of hers. But this might be more worthwhile as something to check out from the library than to buy yourself, unless you're a Jennifer Weiner fan and want it to be part of your collection. I would almost rather have seen many of these stories expanded into full books than in their current short and unsatisfying formats.
