Book Reviews of The Heart Aroused : Poetry and the Preservation of the Soul in Corporate AmericaBook Review: I recommend this book to anyone wants to grow. Summary: 5 StarsI would highly recommend this book to anyone facing difficult change in their professional career. I found this book to be insightful and very clear, unlike some other books dealing with self exploration and the like. This is a practical, useful book of exploration. I have typically found no use for books of this type in the corporate realm but this book is different. Great soul food!!
Book Review: Recommended Summary: 5 StarsThe words: soul, spirit, & heart are big business, now. They are also showing up in Big Business. I guess that's a good thing, although the inevitable is already happening. The words themselves are becoming a hot commodity, reduced to a glib cultural artifact. Nonetheless - there are people who have played the role of pioneer in this commercial renaissance, and the originality of their work merits an imbibe, like a fine Welsh ale. We thought David Whyte, Welsh naturalist turned poet in America, was already very well known for being worth the drink. I'm hearing many potential OtherWisers say "who?". ! We recommend his work, (beautifully designed) for those who have not heard of him or have any doubts about the quiet thunder of the hearty "new business model."
Book Review: Finally There is a Spotlight What's Missing at the Office... Summary: 5 StarsA wonderful book that validated my decade of wondering why people left the best, most creative, and emotional parts of themselves at the office door. This book is a wonderful contrast to all of the "full catastrophe leadership" management manuals out there. I'm tempted to send a copy of "The Heart Aroused" to my company's CEO.
Book Review: Heart Aroused joins Iron John & Women Who Run With Wolves. Summary: 5 StarsThis is another fine book to popularize jungian psychology,
this time for anyone who operates in, or has been effected
by the corporate world. In other words just about anyone
who might read the book. During a six month period in which
I chose (this time) to take a break from the work-a-day world,
I read this book with fascination, and looked to it for
solace, vindication, and guidance. It is truly an antidote
for what Dilbert finds is going on out there!
If you don't want to understand this civilization we are in,
or if you do not want to be asked to think at this time ---
then Don't Read This Book! If you want to experience your
emotional existence being brought more fully alive then this book
is the one for you to read now. All the best, Hal!
Book Review: A gentle finger on the pulse of the corporate worker's heart Summary: 5 StarsAmazing insight into the human soul and how the corporate
workplace has evolved to stifle personal identity, creativity,
and the joy associated with work. More than that, Whyte
skillfully and poetically provides the philosophical
framework for reuniting the worker with the workplace.
Using references from great literature, parables, poetry and
prose, and drawing from the great diversity of humanity,
Whyte opens a path by which we can regain the joy of
working creatively. A book to read, and read again,
just to learn how to grow spiritually and remain human
at work.
