Book Reviews of The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock StarBook Review: Truly a unique addition perspective Summary: 4 StarsNikki Sixx is really a hero--in the truest sense. Here is a young man who has everything against him and yet he succeeds. He becomes exactly what he dreamed--A HUGE ROCK STAR. He dives in head first--living HUGE. In addition to the enormous success he achieves, he also does the somewhat cliche thing. He becomes an a drug addict. But fortunately for us he does the "un-cool" thing rahter than die, he beats his addiction. I don't know how many other people can or do overcome something like heroin addiction, but he should certainly feel a huge sense of accomplishment. The reason this book works when others fail is that Nikki Sixx is willing to be honest--ugly, unloved, vulnerable, and reflective. When others just gloss over addiction, he shows the ugliness of it. In doing this he gives a huge amount of hope to others. And you know what makes this an even cooler story--he is donating the profits to help young people--like his former self. That bright, young kid who wasn't given a shot. He is donating the profits to homeless teens. Even if you are not in to Motley Crue, buy this book.
Book Review: decent read Summary: 4 StarsI started this book and finished it about 48 hours. It kept my attention and flowed with the shock-factor nicely divvied up throughout the book. I like the fact that proceeds will go to a benefit. The soundtrack goes along with it nicely. Kudos to Nikki Sixx, pulling skeletons from the closet seems to have worked for him.
Book Review: Absolutely Incredible! Summary: 5 StarsI actually bought this book & its companion cd for my husband. Well, as it turns out, this was the most raw, harsh, heartbreaking, and WONDERFUL book I've read in such a long time. I can't remember the last time I've picked up a book that I simply could not put down! You name the emotion, this book invokes it. And trust me, after reading this book, I can't imagine why ANYone would ever want to venture into the "lifestyle" he was living. He succeeded quite admirably in his efforts to make damned good and sure you understand that there is no beauty or glamour in being an addict. Top off the book with the equally exceptional companion cd, and you've got Heaven on earth - & that's coming from someone who's never been much of a metal fan. This guy's got more talent than I ever realized. And man, I'm glad I found out!
Book Review: Great Book!!! Summary: 5 StarsI got this book with mixed emotions. I wasnt sure I wanted to read about his life on drugs and alcohol ect.. When I got it I in turn became addicted..to the book! It was sad, gross, and sometimes funny. I am amazed that he is still alive, happy that he is and glad that he is clean. This book should be a requirement to read in high school, this book could help alot of people, maybe change somebody's life.
Book Review: Shooting Up, Drinking, Sex and Bodily Functions with Nikki Sixx Summary: 5 StarsThis book is about Nikki Sixx's pain and all the drinking and drugs he took to block his brain from thinking and feeling anything about his childhood. Drug addiction is horrifying. His diary is a lot about his shooting up everything you can think of including putting Jack Daniels in a syringe and shooting that up. There are a lot of torrid tidbits about the band on tour with Whitesnake and Guns and Roses. It is brutally honest and worth a read. I did not know that he and Donna were divorced and was sorry to read that. He did everything he could to kill himself, but by the grace of God he is still alive. I hope he continues to stay sober.
