Book Review: A Heavy Dose of Mind Expansion

//Hidden Dimensions// is certainly, if nothing else, a one of a kind book. In an attempt to unravel the complexities and mysteries of human consciousness, Wallace brings in physics to help explain the realities behind perception and consciousness. It's a dense and challenging read that draws together thoughts on human consciousness from many different fields, ranging from Buddhism to philosophy and toward the aforementioned sciences. While Hall is certainly an intelligent man with a deep understanding of a vastly complicated and rather esoteric field, his writing style comes off as quite dry. It is an unfortunate characteristic of a book that could certainly garner much more interest if painted in a more appealing way. Instead the result is a short, though uncompromisingly dense work that will cause the eyes to glaze over when the wheels of the mind should be racing with questions. It's unfortunate too, because Hall has certainly done his research and has approached inquiries into human consciousness like none have before him. While the topic is interesting, it would be advisable to tackle this book in short bursts and accompanied by a large cup of coffee.
