Fantastically exciting for young boys. Should be read before "The Lord of the Rings" as the events described in "The Hobbit" occur before and provide the background to TLOTR. Too childish a book to recommend for adults.Book Review: Wonderful

'Too childish a book to recommend for adults' - I think not. I read this for the first time at age 30 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Only wish I had read it earlier. It is a magical adventure that will appeal to young and old alike. What makes it so special is the way Tolkien tells the tale. You really get caught up in the atmosphere and find it hard to put down. So read this, then start on Lord Of The Rings, so you can impress people with your Middle Earth wisdom when Lord Of The Rings - the movie is released in Xmas 2001.

I don't like reading. So it was very board when I picked up a copy of Lord of the Rings (a huge huge book), it was the only book I looked at after school books. I couldn't put it down, Excellent & epic in every way! After this I thourght I liked books, & so tried to read some others (Hannibal, Steven King, etc). Couldn't get past the second chapter. Loved the films but the books were to boaring. I finally came accross the Hobbit, the only other book I've ever read. It was a little more for kids than TLOTR, but still excellent!!! Yet, I found TLOTR to be far to long & detailed for children. All in all I think TLOTR is the best book of all time, & the Hobbit is my number 2.Book Review: Adventure story. (a good buy)
