Book Reviews of The HobbitBook Review: Childhood memories galore Summary: 4 Stars
This shall forever and always be a literary classic. In fact, I think I prefer it the popular Lord of the Rings, as it stears to a more childlike sense of wonder in an utterly charming sample of hobbits, dwarves, and dragons.
It's hero: a loveable but unlikely champion called Bilbo Baggins who would rather not go on an adventure if he could help it. And yet he is dragged into a quest for dragon treasure when Gandalf the wizard spreads the rumor that poor Bilbo is an infamous burglar.
Here we have all the necessities of a proper fantasy: a charming, dangerous world, quirky characters, trolls, dragons, and wars.
This is cuter and more of a fairy tale than LOTR will ever be, but perhaps it's better that way: a great story rather than an epic.
Book Review: Easily Tolkien's most readable novel: outstanding tale, even if less lustrous than LoTR Summary: 5 Stars
The Hobbit is a fantastic novel. The pages practically turn themselves in this tale of Bilbo and the Ring. Bilbo's journey is epic. Our humble hobbit faces up to great dangers, is morally and physically challenged. In the end Bilbo is transformed by the journey: he becomes more courageous, more generous, and more a complete living being. I read this as a twelve year old and absolutely relished every page: it's readability is outstanding. The far more imaginative Lord of the Rings trilogy is often badly written and overdrawn. The later work has obviously lit the fires of fifty million dreams, but this first book is the more taut. While many readers will dislike the trilogy and recoil from its complexities, nearly everyone can enjoy this wonderful story.

Book Review: Excellent book Summary: 5 Stars
This book is fantastic. I have to read it at least once a year. It is very entertaining, very fun and never gets old. Each time I pick up the book to read it it feels and reads as fresh as it did the first time. Great book for all ages and the best place to start if you are interested in "The Lord of the Rings" or learning more about Middle Earth. I'd recommend this book to everyone and it makes for a wonderful present for any and all occasions.
Book Review: Fantastic book and an excellent paperback edition... Summary: 5 Stars
This is not a literary review, this is about the edition/printing only.
This is a great paperback. I bought it because it was economical, but ended up enjoying it because it is of exceptional quality. This is NOT a mass-market, stiff as a board, tiny font, drug-store printing. This is a book with sturdy binding and thick matte paper with pleasantly large font type. While it doesn't lay flat on a table when open, it is very easy to hold open in one hand. I love hardbacks, but this paperback was a purchase I do not regret.
GREAT BOOK, MEMORABLE JOURNEY WITH UNIQUE CHARACTERS, AND A TOTALLY RECOMMENDED EDITION.
